As people are becoming more health conscious, more of us are now taking Herbs, Vitamins and Minerals to supplement our diets, taking them as preventatives, and to give us long, healthier, more active lives.
Our food does not always provide all the nutrients that our bodies require, nor the fuel that we need to function properly. This is due to many different factors; for example, how long has the food been stored, how far it has travelled, and what conditions are like when the food is in transit. Readymade Meals, Additives and preservatives - all of these can add up to a not so healthy diet with very few nutrients left if any.
Herbs, Vitamins and Minerals come in tablet form, capsules or powders. In some tablets there are only a small percentage of the active ingredients actually in the tablet, and the rest is made up of binders, colourings, fillers, disintegrants, diluents, and modified starches, some of the ingredients we are trying to avoid in our food. Tablets can be hard to swallow and hard for the body to break down and digest. Tablets are much less expensive than capsules or powders but, the less you pay the more of these ingredients you will find in the tablet.
Powders can be difficult to dissolve in liquid and also the taste does not suit all palates.
On the other hand capsules are easier to swallow and they increase the absorption of the herb or vitamin effectively, capsules are designed to dissolve and therefore cannot pass through the digestive tract and the herb is released into the system to do its work.
